Our Corporate Governance includes the ZESPRI Board of Directors, who hold 11 meetings during the financial year. The Board also meets for strategic planning sessions, the annual budget-setting round and for the annual Directors’ conference. The eight Board Members offer a wide range of experience, from international marketing and corporate governance to industry knowledge and financial expertise. Their task is to provide strong strategic direction for the company and ensure it meets all regulatory requirements.

Chairman John Loughlin

John Loughlin is the chairman of ZESPRI Group Limited, Allied Farmers Limited, Allied Nationwide Finance Limited and Tru-Test Corporation Limited.  John is a Director of Metlifecare Limited, Port of Napier Limited, Kermadec Property Fund Limited, Taupo Motorsport Park Limited, and Centralines Limited.  He is a former Issuer Appointee to NZ Markets Disciplinary Tribunal.  John and his wife have developed a vineyard and the award-winning Askerne winery business in Hawke's Bay. 

Deputy Chairman Peter McBride

Peter McBride’s career has been focused on agribusiness development and management in kiwifruit, apple and dairying enterprises. He and his family have a long history of investment in, and commitment to, the growth of the kiwifruit industry through their orchard holdings. His industry focus is currently on developing a new orchard with his wife and ensuring that ongoing investment in innovation returns optimum value to the industry.

Mark Bayly

Dr Mark Bayly has a background in international marketing and management, both in New Zealand and Ireland.  Mark worked as a Group Account Director at Saatchi & Saatchi Dublin, and in 2000 established a business consultancy specialising in international marketing and management strategy.  He returned to New Zealand in 2004.

Mark owns a kiwifruit orchard in Te Puke, is a Director of Pacific View Pack & Cool and is a past member of Kiwifruit New Zealand.

Tony de Farias

Tony de Farias has a long history with the kiwifruit industry including orchard ownership, involvement in several industry bodies and the establishment of Seeka Kiwifruit Industries Limited which he managed until 2006. Tony was an inaugural member of the New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated serving as Vice-President until 1996 when he was appointed a member of Kiwifruit New Zealand Board until 2001. He was a member of the Industry Advisory Council and Supply Chain Committee until December 2006.

Tony is currently Director of several orchard investment companies as well as the Fresh Fruit Company of Nelson Limited. He is the Chairman of Opotiki Packing and Coolstorage Limited (OPAC) and Kiwi Produce Limited. Tony has direct interests in both GREEN and GOLD orchard investments.

Craig Greenlees

Craig Greenlees is a long-time Bay of Plenty kiwifruit grower and champion of the industry’s integrated ‘orchard to retail’ supply and marketing structure. He is founding partner and joint owner of Direct Management Services Limited, a kiwifruit growing, management, packaging, cool storage and export marketing business, and he manages the family kiwifruit orchard. He is also a Director of G6 Kiwi Limited. Craig has extensive experience in corporate finance, information systems and forestry management.

Anthony Marks

Tony Marks has had a long career in marketing, sales and general management, including Chief Executive of ZESPRI Group Limited from 1998 - 2002, General Manager Marketing of Air New Zealand for 10 years, Marketing Manager of Kraft Food for 7 years and in 2003 became the inaugual CEO of Pacific Blue Airlines.

Tony is on the Board of a range of companies including House of Travel, Auckland Regional Transport Authority, Martin Aircraft Company, Redwood Cellars and post-harvest operator Apata Limited.

David Pilkington

David Pilkington joined ZESPRI with an extensive career in the New Zealand agricultural industry, including 28 years with Fonterra (formerly the New Zealand Dairy Board) where he held a number of senior management positions, including Chief Executive Officer of the Dairy Board’s operations in both North America and Japan. His most recent role at Fonterra was a Managing Director of New Zealand Milk, the global consumer products and food-service business.

Now a professional director, David is on the boards of publicly-listed Port of Tauranga Limited and Restaurant Brands New Zealand Limited as well as Ballance Agri-Nutrients Limited, Rangatira Limited, Old Fashioned Foods Limited and Douglas Pharmaceuticals Limited. He is Chairman of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts and Prevar Limited, a company that breeds new apple and pear varieties.

Raymond Sharp

Raymond Sharp has a background in Chartered Accountancy, and is a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. He was the Chair of the Bay of Plenty Community Trust for 6 years until 2007 and the Deputy Chair of the combined Community Trusts Group of New Zealand.

Raymond has been involved in the kiwifruit industry since 1995, starting out as an orchardist before becoming a grower Director of post-harvest operator Eastpack in 1997. He is currently the Chairman of Eastpack.
