ZESPRI’s seven Board Members offer a wide range of experience, from international marketing and corporate governance to industry knowledge and financial expertise. Their task is to provide strong strategic direction for the company and ensure it meets all regulatory requirements.


Chairman - Peter McBride

Peter McBride’s career has been focused on agribusiness development and management in kiwifruit, apple and dairying enterprises. He and his family have a long history of investment in, and commitment to, the growth of the kiwifruit industry through their orchard holdings.
 
Peter has financial interests in the kiwifruit, dairy and avocado industries and also has a strong interest and governance focus on innovation, especially in relation to plant breeding and new product development. Peter has a long involvement with charitable organisations, including his role as director of Centrefarm Aboriginal Horticulture in Australia since 2008.

Bruce Cameron

Bruce Cameron is a long time kiwifruit grower. He also has a background in pastoral and arable farming, and has previously run businesses in the aggregate and transport industries. Bruce has interests around property, diary, beef, sheep and kiwifruit farming.

Bruce is on the boards of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Te Awanui Huka Pak, Cameron Farms Ltd, Gilston Mains Ltd, Blue and Gold Foundation and Waipuna Foundation.

Tony de Farias

A Zespri Director since 2007, Tony de Farias also holds a number of governance roles as Independent Chairman in the Agricultural / Horticultural sector covering Dairy and Pipfruit in addition to Kiwifruit. He is also a Director of Eastern BOP Lines company Horizon Energy. Community interests include Chairmanship of Toi EDA (Eastern BOP Economic Development Agency), and as an independent director of the BOP Rugby Union. He is also Chairman of the Whakatane Airport Board. Tony de Farias has a long history with the kiwifruit industry including orchard ownership, involvement in several industry bodies and the establishment of Seeka Kiwifruit Industries Limited which he managed until 2006. Tony is the Zespri Director appointed to the Green Development Group.

 

Tony has direct interests in both GREEN and GOLD orchard investments located at Wainui Road South, Katikati and Otomarakau, east of Te Puke.


Craig Greenlees

Craig Greenlees is a long-time Bay of Plenty kiwifruit grower and champion of the industry’s integrated ‘orchard to retail’ supply and marketing structure. He is founding partner and joint owner of Direct Management Services Limited, a kiwifruit growing, management, packaging, cool storage and export marketing business, and he manages the family kiwifruit orchard. He is also a Director of G6 Kiwi Limited. Craig has extensive experience in corporate finance, information systems and forestry management.

Anthony Marks

Tony Marks has had a long career in marketing, sales and general management.

He was CEO of ZESPRI Group Limited from 1998-2002 , General Manager Sales and Marketing for Air New Zealand  for 10 years, inaugural CEO of Virgin New Zealand and worked for 7 years for the international food marketer Kraft and 7 years with Carter Holt Harvey.


Tony is on the Board of a number of companies including Redwood Cellars, Leigh Fish, Ngai Tahu Tourism, Grow Rotorua and Virgin Samoa as well as Zespri.


David Pilkington

David Pilkington joined ZESPRI with an extensive career in the New Zealand agricultural industry, including 28 years with Fonterra (formerly the New Zealand Dairy Board) where he held a number of senior management positions, including Chief Executive Officer of the Dairy Board’s operations in both North America and Japan. His most recent role at Fonterra was a Managing Director of New Zealand Milk, the global consumer products and food-service business.

Now a professional director, David is on the boards of publicly-listed Port of Tauranga Limited and Restaurant Brands New Zealand Limited as well as Ballance Agri-Nutrients Limited, Rangatira Limited, and Douglas Pharmaceuticals Limited. He is Chairman of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts and Chairman of Hellers Ltd.

Nathan Flowerday

Nathan Flowerday comes from a farming and kiwifruit orchard background.  After graduating Massey University, Nathan spent several years as a rural manager for ASB Bank in the Bay of Plenty before joining Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (London) as a business analyst and management accountant.


Since returning to New Zealand, Nathan has been actively involved with the post harvest sector, a member of NZKGI, and an associate board trustee of AGMARDT. Nathan manages his own kiwifruit orchards in Te Puke.  
 


Jonathan Mason

Jonathan Mason is currently Fonterra’s Chief Financial Officer but will step down from the role later this year.  Mr Mason has 30 years’ international commercial experience in oil, chemicals, forest products, and dairy and consumer products, with an emphasis on emerging markets.  Prior to joining Fonterra, Jonathan was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cabot Corporation in the United States.  Jonathan’s move to Fonterra was his second move to New Zealand, having lived here in 2000 to 2005 for his role as Chief Financial Officer for Carter Holt Harvey. From 1985 to 2000 he worked in a variety of financial management positions at International Paper and ExxonMobil Corporations. He also has seven years of governance experience, having held directorship responsibilities for several companies and organisations in the US and NZ.
