Zespri International Ltd welcomes the announcement of the NZ-Chinese-Taipei Economic Cooperation Agreement which was signed in Wellington this afternoon.
“Taiwan is a significant market for Zespri. Last year it was our fifth-largest market with sales of over $100 million,” Zespri Chief Executive, Lain Jager said.
“Trade Minister Tim Groser, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the New Zealand Government should be congratulated on achieving this significant outcome. Zespri is a strong supporter of the Government’s trade agenda and this is an important step forward in increasing competitive access to this important Asian market.”
“With the existing tariff on New Zealand kiwifruit sitting at 20 percent, the agreement signed today will see the tariff eliminated over a period of three years, to be completely removed by the 2017 season.”
“This is a fantastic outcome for the industry and will ensure that Taiwan remains a priority market for Zespri,” Mr Jager said
