Careful management of ZESPRI’s supply chain is required to ensure we consistently provide kiwifruit of the highest quality to both customers and consumers.
This supply chain includes Growers, Packhouses, Coolstores, Suppliers, Transport and Shipping.
Once ZESPRI® Kiwifruit has been harvested, it is transported to packhouses and coolstores where the fruit is randomly tested by the Ministry of Agriculture. No chemicals are used on our kiwifruit, post harvest with the exception of ethylene, a naturally occurring gas found in some fruits, which may be used to ripen early export shipments.
About 10 per cent of harvested crops are reject fruit, most of which is used in fruit beverages or stock feed. The other 90 per cent of ZESPRI® Kiwifruit is held in environmentally-friendly coolstores until it is shipped all over the world.
During its transit to supermarket shelves world-wide, ZESPRI® Kiwifruit is transported at ideal temperatures to make sure it arrives in tiptop condition.
Our kiwifruit is stored and shipped in temperatures that ensure its firmness, safety and taste. The right temperature means there is a smaller risk of post-harvest disorders.
The ZESPRI® System clearly runs through this chain so that the best practises are available at every stage. ZESPRI’s core values and principles are an integral part of the value chain from growers and suppliers through to customers and consumers.
And because everything we do is done in a very transparent manner, ZESPRI customers can check the system at any stage.
Our integrated kiwifruit supply chain ensures that the ZESPRI® Brand is recognised as delivering consistently superior quality and value to customers.
