Want to see for yourself how simple it is to enjoy your Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit? Just watch our quick video on how to cut and eat kiwifruit. You’ll only need a kiwifruit and a spoon!

How do I peel and slice a kiwi?

The cut-and-scoop method is certainly one of the easiest ways to eat Zespri Kiwifruit. It lets you eat a kiwi right out of its skin, making it convenient to take with you on the go.

Some people prefer to eat slices of kiwifruit, particularly our Zespri® Green kiwi. And plenty of our Zespri kiwifruit recipes require that you used peeled kiwifruit slices. Fortunately, it’s extremely easy to peel and slice Zespri Green Kiwifruit.

To peel kiwifruit:

With a short paring knife or serrated peeler, cut around the stem patch on both ends so that the stem end can be removed.

Under the skin, make length-wise cuts down the side of the green kiwifruit until the skin is completely removed.

To slice kiwifruit, cut the peeled kiwifruit in half, then slice each half into 2-3 pieces.

Since SunGold Kiwifruit is hairless, so there’s no need to peel — simply cut and scoop, or slice into pieces!

And if you’re eating green-variety kiwifruit, don’t cut and peel away with skin. Consider eating the skin along with the sweet kiwi insides!

Reminder of Storing Kiwifruit

You can keep your Zespri SunGold and Green kiwifruit fresh for about two weeks by storing them in the fridge.

If your kiwifruit gets too ripe before you can eat them, or if you want to keep them for longer, you can pop them in the freezer until you’re ready to make delicious smoothies. Freezing your kiwifruit means you’ll always have kiwifruit on hand when you need one.

Can I eat the skin of a kiwi?

For added convenience, you can eat the skin of the kiwifruit. This not only makes kiwifruit even easier to enjoy, but it provides even more nutrients. The flesh of Zespri Green, for example, has 4 grams of fiber per serving (two kiwifruit) and Zespri SunGold has about 2 grams of fiber per serving (two kiwifruit) — and 50% more if eaten with the skin.

Cooking with kiwifruit skin

The skin of our green-variety kiwifruit is not only great for eating, it’s good for cooking too!

Green kiwifruit contains actinidin, a unique enzyme that easily breaks down the protein found in red meat. This makes Zespri Green Kiwifruit a great meat tenderizer.

You can rub both sides of the meat with the underside of green kiwifruit skin and the meat will be soft and ready for pan-searing or barbecuing.

Keep Your Body Fueled!
