Alexandra Primary School registered one of the smallest teams at this year’s Anchor AIMS Games, but just before the games, the team was reduced to one single competitor – BMX rider Hunter Stirling-Lindsay.
After a week of tough competition, Hunter and Alexandra Primary School have walked away as winners of a spot prize voucher for $500 worth of sports equipment – courtesy of Zespri and their Post Harvest Kiwifruit Suppliers.
Principal of Alexandra Primary, Adele Gott was delighted at the news, “Being a relatively small rural school, this win makes a big impact on our school and our students. The students are so excited that they are already drawing up a wish list of sports equipment”.
This is the first year Zespri has been involved in the Anchor AIMS Games, a tournament held in the heart of kiwifruit country. As part of the sponsorship, Zespri handed out samples of Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit and coordinated a number of fun and entertaining activities at various venues to entertain AIMS Games participants and spectators between games.
The opportunity to sponsor the games, also provided Zespri with the opportunity to help athletes and supporters from across New Zealand learn more about the health benefits of Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit.
Zespri Head of Communications and External Relations Michael Fox says Zespri was thrilled to have seen such enthusiastic participation at both its sites during the event.
“We really wanted to make sure that as well as providing a fun spot for kids to visit during a break from their sports activity, we were demonstrating the nutritional value and health benefits of including Zespri SunGold as part of peoples’ daily diet.
“We were blown away by the skills and enthusiasm of the participants and the number of schools that visited us and congratulate all the kids and schools that got involved.”
All of the schools that participated in Zespri’s activities at Anchor AIMS Games were placed in the draw for a random spot prize to win a $500 sports gear voucher. The winner was drawn and our congratulations go to Alexandra Primary School!
